FWT FAQs

How do I book?

This FAQ has most of the answers to your initial questions such as durations, types of tours, costs and tailoring.

Simply fill in the Parma Food Tour short form in Booking/PayPal page (top menu) or email us: info@foodnwalktours.com  and we will respond immediately. All prices are quoted in euros.

Where do tours start and finish? How long is the tour?

Start point is in Parma, for all food tours (we will advise where once your tour is booked)

Endpoint: Food tours always end at our final destination near Reggio – we trundle back to Parma together or I can get you to the nearest Autostrada entry or rail connection no problem.

We normally allow for 6-7 hrs to complete each day.

Tours start 8.45am, finish between 3-4.30pm… we can tailor.

Note:  Trains are fairly plentiful until late evening if you need to connect onwards post tour – Sunday service is less frequent.

3 KINGS TOUR ITINERARY

How does this FWT compare to others?

There’s a lot more depth in our tours. FWT aims to give you the best food tour destinations at the medium range or budget price. Nick and Caterina are 2 of the most experienced food tour hosts in Parma so quality is always our mission.  The destinations are the best.

Self-Drive?

Yep, you can follow our car or we can jump in with you… easy, low cost.  We recommend Europcar Parma for hire car options. Ask about our driven tour prices too.. (Note: It is illegal for guides to offer a free lift service – the fines are incredibly high).

MORE FAQ:  What’s the Difference between Budget  beater and 3 Kings?

Budget beater Parma food tour features a super gourmet light lunch  in our gourmet cafe… clients can buy their own lunch on the road and we can pitch up at a beauty spot for our picnic during summer or good weather.  It’s the Golosa tour with a slim price.

Menu includes Salumi Misti (Mixed Parma cold cut platters): Parma Ham, Salame, Coppa, Pancetta, Mortadella, hot breads, Malvasia and Lambrusco wines.

3 Kings tour has a Coffee break, extras also include preview Parma Ham tasting, vineyard stroll option and photo call – of course there is also the full Gourmet Castle 2 course Lunch option offered: Salumi misti and Tortelli pasta with Malvasia and Lambrusco wines.

3K goes off at a more leisurely pace and finishes at 4.30pm

How much food is served on the tours?

Quite a lot! Over the course of our food tour you will be enjoying Parmigiano tastings in the morning, our lunches will not leave you hungry or wanting in any respect!

Aside from the Food tours, how much walking is involved on the Walking tours?

Trek tours last between 3- 4 hours and for the majority of the time we will be on our feet. The tours are led at a very casual pace because there are some inclines – the hills do demand reasonable level of fitness and we do  recommend proper foot wear.  There are two stops on the tour where we will be sitting for a combined total of 60 minutes.

We always tailor the walks to suit the client from a stroll to hill climbing.

What is a Self Drive tour?

The option is I can hop in with you.  If yr car is full you can trundle along behind mine – follow the leader.  No one has been lost in the field yet!

Do I have to purchase tickets in advance? Can I pay cash?

You can pay a deposit in advance with PayPal. We normally request a deposit of 50.00 euros which would act as cover for any late cancellation or change (admin charge of 20.00 euros effective 48 hrs pre tour start) and balance payment on the day in cash – There are cash points along the way but best to try to have funds for payment as ATMs are prone to infrequent service.

FWT Super Tour FAQ – A Must Read, making your trip in Italy easy

Is there a wine tasting included on the Food tours?

Yes at lunch we’ll taste the 2 great wines of the region.  More tastings can be arranged if requested at our final (and picturesque) Balsamico Vineyard. Of course the Parma Palazzo Gold cellar wine tasting tour has a swathe of distinguished wines to savour!

On the 3 Kings tour we feature a stop for a Coffee tasting (11.00am) and if wanted sample delicious local pastries on the way to the Ham factory.  Tour hosts will always have fresh bottled water on hand.

How many people can take the tour?

We do specialise in family tours but also have a huge experience in coach parties – There is no maximum number of people on a tour as we have alternated 2 coaches at special destinations suited to large parties so as to not interfere with any smaller groups we may have.

Yes bathrooms are available at several of the food tasting locations.  They can be rather basic in the Parmigiano factory!

Are the walking tours given in bad weather?

There is a risk during low seasons and I encourage all to anticipate and take all weather clothing if needed.  In the case of rain we will be able to go inside many of the tasting locations and there are other places where we will be able to stay dry. We kindly ask that you please look at the weather forecast and dress appropriately. Tickets cannot be cancelled due to the weather.
